Oct Sky Talk – AI Transformation: A Clash with Human Expertise

I had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the October Sky event organized by Chaos1, where I gave a talk on ‘AI Transformation,’ featuring a deliberately provocative subtitle: ‘A Clash with Human Expertise.’

I opened with a 1945 quote from Vannevar Bush: ‘Consider a future device…in which an individual stores all his books, records, and communications, and which is mechanized so that it may be consulted with exceeding speed and flexibility. It is an enlarged intimate supplement to his memory.’

Bush’s vision was not tied to a specific scientific goal. Instead, he emphasized the monumental task of redefining the relationship between scientists and our extensive reservoir of knowledge. His aim was to expand the ‘thinking man’s mind’ and foster interdisciplinary connections among scientists.

Fast forward to today, and we find ourselves on the cusp of realizing Bush’s vision—but with an intriguing twist. What if the ‘device’ is not merely a supplement to human intelligence but becomes the ‘thinking man’ itself?

I have a few teaser slides here. I will share a more comprehensive set of slides about the topic in the near future.
