๐ฃ๏ธ Back in Singapore for the 3rd time this year! It’s a testament to the growing collaboration between Australia and Singapore.
First off, a big thank you to Singapore Tech Week and Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) (Helen Oh) for inviting me to the main stage panel โSynergizing Innovation: Australia and Singapore Leading the AI Revolution.โ It was an amazing opportunity to discuss how our countries are at the forefront of AI innovation.
๐ Reflecting on Australiaโs journey from the Ethical AI Framework to concrete AI best practices https://lnkd.in/gPhid9tX and AI safety standards https://lnkd.in/gU694ScG, itโs been rewarding to see how closely weโve learned from each other through Singapore counterparts like AI Verify and the Singapore AI Safety Institute (AISI)/DTC https://www.ntu.edu.sg/dtc, as well as with broader ecosystems in Southeast Asia/ASEAN countries. See more at CSIRO in ASEAN https://lnkd.in/gZQ_KymY
๐ I also used the opportunity to announce Round 2 of the CSIRO-A*Star 2+2 program! This initiative is bringing together two research organisations and two industry partners from Australia and Singapore to tackle common challenges. This round features projects in AI, ESG, and material science. Perfect timing as AI is becoming more ubiquitousโhighlighted by the recent Nobel Physics and Chemistry Prizes with AI at its core.
๐งญ Some additional highlights:
– Deep dives with Singapore AISI on future collaboration areas and joint projects, collectively spearheading shared interest areas of the international AISI network.
– Attending the quarterly AI Verify Foundation meetup to catch up on their latest AI testing open source tools and the moonshot project https://lnkd.in/gVmigTJ6 on LLM testing.
– Discussing AI/misinformation governance and regulation with Singaporeโs best tech legal mind, Simon Chesterman.
– An interesting session with the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change on the UKโs S&T policy direction and approachesโAI is right at the centre of it.
๐ Wrapped up with a fantastic evening networking event hosted by the Australian High Commission, Singapore, connecting with Australian AI, Cyber, and Health Tech companies on their Southeast Asia mission. It’s inspiring to see the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit at play, and the exciting potential for CSIRO’s Data61 to help drive growth and exports in the region.
Australia-Singapore collaboration is truly building momentumโcan’t wait to see what we achieve next! ๐ฆ๐บ๐ธ๐ฌ๐
