Setting Consumer Data Standards for Australia

The Australian Government has a consumer data right (CDR) regime to increase the level of competition and breadth of services available to consumers. The CDR regime aims to make it easier, with the consumers’ consent, to have citizen data—held by banks, telecommunication companies, energy companies and similar organisations—made available to other, trusted third parties so these can provide new and competitive service offerings. For the first four years, we play the role of standard setter for the CDR regime, releasing standards around data, application programming interfaces (API), and information security with an industry-wide implementation.
